“I can’t get People to understand, there is no such thing as a bad food, just bad timing!”

Dr. Willey wrote this article for the Idaho State Journal in his weekly column.  We wanted to share the third installment with you!

Do you remember when going to McDonalds was fun? The unreserved thrill of french fries and a shake?  No food police gorging you with guilt and shame for your choice of meals?

In our carry-over of thought to decriminalize some foods and food groups we will briefly review fast foods as they relate to long term dietary adherence.  Long term stick-to-it-ness for any eating plan and weight loss program must consider the fact that an occasion will arise when you do not have a plan.  You will be faced head on with the “eat now or die” monster.  As a matter of fact, the “eat now or kill someone” monster will also be lurking.

Fast food fills a need in our busy lives.  In a study published in 2007 under very well controlled conditions a fast food meal was compared to an organic turkey and organic beef meal – the findings: almost every measure of body response to the foods (glucose, insulin, free fatty acids, triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, leptin and ghrelin) measured every 30 minutes for six hours after ingestion were the same.

Banish the thought, but fast food may be legitimate in similar situations, just keep in mind the caloric density of fast food.  It is likely to contain a lot more calories than food you prepare at home. Next [article] (click for next article) we will cover the sweetness known as sugar.
