HIGHLIGHTS:

02:08 PCOS presents to doctors’ offices when menstruation stops, so I see in my practice quite
a bit when a young lady hasn’t had a period in a few months, was quite concerning. Now there’s
a difference between not having a period because of PCOS and not having a period because
you don’t eat enough and you exercise too much. Like in the female athletic triad, which is an
eating disorder. Amenorrhea or lack of menstruation and osteoporosis or bone breakdown
because of lack of nutrients.

04: 40 Women with PCOS can also show up in my office with chronic pelvic pain, sleep apnea,
pain with sexual activity or even breast discharge. I’ve seen a couple young ladies come in. An
overall felt well, but they have breast discharge, usually a white or gray discharge, at any time
during the month and doing our full workup, we came up with polycystic ovarian syndrome. So
it’s something to think about the risk factors or causative factors, that we think of when women
present with PCOS a while we think of mom is impossible to blame here.

06:15 PCOS is not necessarily a problem of androgens, it’s more of a problem with insulin

07:54 It’s an also affects a brain hormone called luteinizing hormone. Luteinizing hormone is
what stimulates downstream because the luteinizing hormone comes from your pituitary gland
and it stimulates downstream the ovaries and whatnot to increase androgen production or
androgens.

12:13 The eating plan for PCOS is a low inflammatory, low carbohydrate diet, with what I call
delayed eating technique. I think it works so well with people on the Internet. They’ve been
calling her for the last few years, intermittent fasting, I call it DET dieting, DET for delayed
eating technique because that’s been something we’ve been doing for years, both for the sport
of Physique, artistry like bodybuilding, as well as in medical conditions like this. This is done by
avoiding most of, not all carbohydrates in the Diet to keep them some low and avoid as many
processed foods and manmade foods as you can

14:35 So exercise for women with PCOS should be short duration, high-intensity movements.
this would be ideally done in resistance training setting such as hurt or high-intensity resistance
training, or even some hit cardio, high-intensity interval training, but you want hard, quick and
fast.

16: 16 Cardio activity is the best exercise to treat your PCOS

19: 07 treating the symptoms for improved quality of life while we’re treating the underlying
cause is the RecoverMe method of intervention.

19: 23 Metformin is a medication we use in diabetes and insulin resistance. It works great in
PCOS and improved pregnancy rates using a medicine called clomiphene or clomid increases
ovulation so women are more likely to get pregnant with that.

21:16 It fixes the liver. There’s insulin resistance in the liver, in PCOS. NAC really helps with
that. It decreases a nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. I just so many things. NAC is an absolute
essential for women with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Another one you may have heard from
mom, because a lot of women take this supplement and menopause called Black Cohosh, I
suggest roughly 20 milligrams a day. Black Cohosh binds to the estrogen receptor and helps to
lower LH. So, luteinizing hormone. So not only do we get benefits with the hair and skin
changes by lowering things, or the Androgens, it’s just a great benefit overall in that whole
estrogen, progesterone, testosterone balance we talked about. Another one I really liked a lot is
chasteberry. Chasteberry, roughly 40 milligrams a day. Chasteberry has been shown to help
increase progesterone, thereby again, improving progesterone kinetics, helping with the
progesterone to estrogen ratio.

23: 28 Saw Palmetto we used in the treatment of prostate. It’s what we call a five alpha
reductase inhibitor. And therefore in women, it’ll help with excessive hair growth as you have
some women in particular with a lot of hair growth on the body, have five alpha reductase,
converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone in the hair follicle, causing it to grow more.
